Module 4 ch1-ch3ch

Chapter 1

Media research
I had to collect any examples of ‘media’ items that could inspire myself within the MEDIA theme of the Module 4. 2. such as paper clips, stamps, envelopes, writing inks, pens.Than I had to arrange a collection of items , photos, photocopies, rubbings, drawings on a background to design a collage I had to include items of colour to suggest a colour scheme later on in the Module My colour scheme for this Module comes from the inky blues , the bright orange and turquoise from the stamps and the yellow-brown colour from the brown paper

                                                                        picture 1
The collage from wrapping paper envelope linings and poststamps which I got the last weeks before christmas

                                                                         picture 2
Thorned stamps from new and old envelopes

Lettering research
A collage from an old letter which I got from my mother many years ago, a chinese and chyrillic letters and a copie from a newspaper article: The words become picture. I edit the collage with photoshop

                                                                           picture 4
Different styles of lettering , edit with photoshop using a selection of coloured and scanned papers

I had to choose a letter or simple word to make their marks with different drawing methods to experiment with the different drawing tools and in different styles of lettering .
                                                                        picture 5
from top to bottom :
with a pen made of cardboard -with a pen made of the corner of a check card -I used edge of card to repeatedly stamp lines to form each letter shape.- With a wide brush .-With a Q-tip and overpainted with a bleach pen. -With cutted snips in the edge of card

                                                                         picture 6

I used the same tools as before ,dipped in bleach and overpainted with these blue ink

                                                                          picture 7
Bottom right. A rubbing from a linocut, overpainted with black ink and than overpainted with bleach

                                                                         picture 8
I applied PVA glue to the paper using an edge of card and a thin brush;after drying I overpainted
with blue ink; I let it dry.and than it was overpainted with crayon with a contrast colour to highlight the
relief surface of the dried glue. At the button , I applied glue by squeezing through tiny snip in corner of a polythene bag - drag blue ink across and a colour wash with watercolour raised glue surface. A contrast
crayon was used to highlight relief further

                                                                            picture 9
close writing each word - each row overlaped Each letter was lined up with the previous line I wrote alternate words up side down The words were moved forwards slightly every row to give a diagonal
effect I wrote diagonally, crossing over other lines of words

                                                                        picture 10
I added patterns to the same shape in each word The left hand follows the reight hand . Left=red colour, right= blue I added a pattern edited with photoshop from letters to the negative spaces between the letter
shapes The letters became bigger and were emphasized with a second colour I selected the diagonal lines to
extend the letter A with added lines.

                                                                       picture 11
A collage of two blocks of lettering one cut up and I combined it with another block.

                                                                       picture 12

The letter A got a raised surface with PVA drawing .I used this raised letter to make rubbings with crayon. I position the paper at different angles to turn the writing up-side-down rubbing in different directions to get different marks with the crayon one particular shape was linked up in the word to form a new pattern
( see the next picture) I overlapped the rubbings, moving the paper very slightly

                                                                   picture 13
The new pattern from a linked up shape fom the letter A

Combined collage of several different blocks

                                                      Like a patchworkblock

                                                                   picture 15
I used the edited letters TGHS from chapter one making apattern

                                                                    picture 16
                                                                 The ready pattern

                                                     very small pattern elements

Module 4 chapter 3

I had to make a collection of different types of grids, meshes and nets that
could be made from any material

                                                            picture 19
From left to right:
Linen, jute, hessian, tea strainer, fish net, gauze, net for paper making, colour strain, net for onion, and for oranges, stramin
