Diagonal stitching
I withdrawn threads in both direction to get a grid and partly fixed the threads with machine stitching but the most with several hand stiching and buttonhole lace. In the grid I stitched variation of double knot, squared palestrina knot, hardanger stitches and russian drawn ground work

Machine zig-zag stitch
Because my sewing machine doesn'it like to stitch over „thin air“ I had to use water soluble vlies underneath the linen scrim

                                                                         picture 3

That‘s is only machine stitched to intend to change the linear structure of the withdrawn areas and I like the
effekt

 Tuchs
I made wide bands of withdrawn threads and fold the fabric over so that the woven areas either side of the withdrawn band meet together and machine a line of stitching to form a tuck. I braid the the loops with each other and stitched them down

Combination of hand and machine stitcheing
The withdrawn area is machine stitched in both direction. The pulled threads are tighten with machine stitching, neadle waving, bullion knots and button lace. Stripes of fringed fabrics and bouclé wool are weaved thrugh the grid

Another sample with machine stitched grid this was partly filled with areas of needle waving with cords made from withdrawn threads and effect yarn ,felted stripes couched with crochet cords from silk ribbon.
It was a great fun to use different materials for the drawn thread work and I am happy to get interesting
textures .I intend to make a quilt with my peaces.

Module 4 chapter 5

Chapter 5
Drawn thread work

This is my photo of dyed cloth for drawn thread work. My colour scheme for this Module is yellow /orange and turquoise/blue. The linen was originally white The withdrawn of the threads from the tightly woven Ikealeinen developed like a Sisyphuswork. For the next exercises I'll take good countable fabric. I dyed the linen with Procion MX

Exercise 1
I had to form patterns by withdrawing threads in different quantities

                                                               picture 2

Exercise 2

                                                                      picture 3

Here I pulled weave threads inwards from different areas creating loops and fixed them with cast on stitch and french knots The exercise below shows partially withdrawn several neighbouring weave threads in
groups. Then I thread these as one wick onto a tapestry needle and darned into the weave with a difference! The threads are anchored with a twisted knot. On the left side I fixed parts of the withdrawn threads with weaved stitches The fabric undulate a little bit because the weave threads have been pulled and the knot has made them shorter.
